Education through sports
For children and youth living in developing countries or post-conflict, post-disaster situations, who need to rebuild social ties while gaining basic knowledge on healthcare or good citizenship.
Sports are one of the few universal languages of our time. Participation in sports is both a right and a means to achieve educational, recreational and therapeutic goals.
Sports Without Borders in Afghanistan (Kabul, Charikar, Panshir)
This is the NGO’s biggest program.
It works on two themes:
training adults (i.e. teachers, coaches, and coordinators of extracurricular activities);
and building, renovating or equipping sport infrastructure.
In Afghanistan, we built a multi-sport gymnasium for the Hazara community of Darcht-e-Barchi (Kabul). Approximately 74 individuals per day enjoy the structured activities, which include volleyball, basketball, handball, recreational and occupational games, interpretive dancing, and traditional Afghan games. We also encouraged the development of female sports, which are a complex issue; the walls at the Darcht-e-Barchi centre were raised at the request of the community centre.
Thanks to a local advocate, we were also able to open a university gym for female sports. The main issue facing the development of school sports is human resources.
We developed complete training modules for the teaching of sports and physical education.
