After a first successful project together in 2019, as the Covid crisis had a devastating impact on youth employment in Egypt, PPI and EACD joined their forces once again to narrow the gap between labour market supply and demand. The aim is clear: qualifying young people for the labour market \u2013 whether as employees or entrepreneurs. We spoke to EACD to find out more about the organisation and the work it is doing with PPI on the ground. <\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t<\/div> \n\t<\/section>\n\t\n<style>\n\n#actus_tetiere_inner .colonne1 { background-color: var(--green); color: #ffffff;}\n\n<\/style>\t\n\t\n\t  <\/div>\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n<div id=\"field_powe42e34e9d37b4cfe\" class=\"container-fluid px-0 flexible_section block_columns\">\n <div id=\"field_powe42e34e9d37b4cfe_inner\" class=\"container flexible_section_inner\">\n\n   <div class=\"row flexible_section_content\">\n\n   <div class=\"col-sm-12 colonne colonne1\">\n    <div class=\"colonne_inner  text-left\">\n<h3><strong>What is EACD ?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The Egyptian Association for Comprehensive Development (EACD) was established on 25 December 1995, with the aim of <strong>developing the capabilities of individuals the most in need, especially youth, women and children in rural and informal communities<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Accordingly, EACD has formed and focused on four main objectives:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Investing efforts <strong>to generate policies and strategies that<\/strong> <strong>enhance the skills of community members<\/strong> in various fields, such as health, education, environment, and economy, mainly focusing on Women, Children &amp; Youth (Egyptians, refugees and migrants).<\/li>\n<li>Designing and implementing <strong>development programs aimed at improving the living conditions<\/strong> in rural areas that are deprived or lacking infrastructure.<\/li>\n<li>Initiating <strong>mutual cooperation between civil society organisations and the public and private sectors<\/strong> through dialogues towards the sustainable development of society.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Building and expanding the tools and methods<\/strong> of development activities of the Community Development Associations, to support the capacities of their institutional structure to ensure a sustainable development role.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>EACD focuses on five main fields of work: economic development, health, education, women&#8217;s empowerment including combating violence, and preserving the environment.<\/p>\n<p>Over the past 28 years, <strong>EACD has served more than 20,000 direct beneficiaries annually<\/strong>. EACD takes pride in the fact <strong>that most of its staff are actually individuals living amongst the target communities<\/strong>, which contributes significantly to deepening the impact of the services provided and reflects the extent of the positive change being carried out by the teamwork.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>What is the YEEB ? How was it born?<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-181652\" src=\"https:\/\/www.groupe-sos.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/PHOTO-YEEP-25.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.groupe-sos.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/PHOTO-YEEP-25.jpg 816w, https:\/\/www.groupe-sos.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/PHOTO-YEEP-25-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.groupe-sos.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/PHOTO-YEEP-25-768x576.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The idea behind the Youth Employability and Entrepreneurship Booster (YEEB) project was born out of the difficult economic situation triggered by the Covid pandemic<\/strong>. Many people lost their jobs or a part of their income as a result, and costs rose very quickly. Thousands of Egyptian entrepreneurs had to shut down their activity.<\/p>\n<p>PPI with EACD thus decided to develop an employment program \u2013 including self-employment &#8211; targeting youth in the marginalised areas of greater Cairo. <strong>The aim of this project is simply to qualify young people for the labour market<\/strong>, whether to help them find a job or to accompany them in the development of a small business.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>How do you implement it in the field ?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>First, we study the situation in the target community, identify partners and contact employment initiatives.<\/p>\n<p>Then we build the capabilities of the target groups through <strong>a set of qualifying programs that enable them to keep pace with the needs of the labour market<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Training programs for the development of life and social skills for young people, enabling them to recognise their potential and determine their career path.<\/li>\n<li>A program for young people who wish to start their own business. It helps them determine a business idea that is suitable for the market demands, assists them in developing a feasibility study and in ensuring the productivity of their business.<\/li>\n<li>A life skills program dedicated to young people who wish to find a proper job and stay committed to it. The aim is to develop enthusiasm and self-confidence for young people to decide for themselves.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>What is the project\u2019s current and expected impact? <\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The main impact of the YEEB project is reflected in EACD&#8217;s focus on <strong>developing motivation amongst young people, building their confidence in themselves and in society, <\/strong>and emphasising their abilities to form and develop in various fields of employment.<\/p>\n<p>YEEB selects groups of young people who have a real need for work and works on developing their commitment so that they become attractive to the private sector &#8211; or clients for microentrepreneurs. <strong>The aim is to narrow the gap between actual market demands and human resources. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We started with 4 training programs in El Marg and Maadi (Greater Cairo) and we are proud to say that <strong>93 beneficiaries participated effectively, out of which 35 have successfully been employed and still keeping their jobs till today!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-181673 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.groupe-sos.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/PHOTO-YEEP-6.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"401\" height=\"301\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.groupe-sos.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/PHOTO-YEEP-6.jpg 960w, https:\/\/www.groupe-sos.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/PHOTO-YEEP-6-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.groupe-sos.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/PHOTO-YEEP-6-768x576.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 401px) 100vw, 401px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>How do you work with PPI on this project? <\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The roots of this project lie in a 2019 project called \u201cStart for Tomorrow\u201d, in which EACD built partnerships between the private sector and trained young people, with the support of PPI (at the time Positive Planet International).<\/p>\n<p>In 2023, PPI (People Power Inclusion) and EACD came to form a new partnership around the idea of YEEB, following up on \u201cStart for Tomorrow\u201d and even broadening the scope to include entrepreneurship alongside employment.<\/p>\n<p>Currently, <strong>PPI provides technical support to EACD, in order to allow it to carry on with the project and sustain it into its programs.
