Youth at the Heart of European Climate Action: A Look Back at the CLIMentines Training of Trainers in Bologna

26 June 2025 • NEWS

Funded by the Erasmus+ program, The CLIMentines – Empowered Youth for Climate Action project aims to strengthen young people’s involvement in the fight against climate change at the European level. As part of this initiative, a Training of Trainers took place in Bologna, Italy, from February 4 to 7, 2025, bringing together 33 participants from France, Austria, Italy, Finland, and Poland.

This training aimed to equip youth professionals to better support young people in their climate mobilization through participatory, transnational, and inclusive approaches.

Objectives of the Training

This training session pursued three main objectives:

  • Enhancing the skills of youth workers in climate action by deepening their knowledge and experimenting with practical participatory tools;
  • Deepening the understanding of participatory and deliberative democracy principles, and integrating them into daily professional practice;
  • Creating a transnational community through the exchange of best practices on youth engagement in climate action.

A Key European Moment for Climate Education

Preceded on February 3 by a partner meeting, the event also served to finalize preparations for the “Local Task Forces,” which will be deployed in each partner country. These local groups will play a key role in mobilizing young people around climate issues. The meeting also helped prepare for the upcoming youth exchange that will take place in Athens in June — the project’s highlight event.

Concrete Tools to Take Action

As part of the CLIMentines project, several educational resources have been developed to facilitate young people’s civic engagement in climate matters. These tools are freely accessible and can be used in educational, community, or civic projects:

These resources are designed to support youth-led climate action across Europe by providing accessible, practical, and inspiring content.

A Growing European Momentum

Beyond the tools, this Training of Trainers helped strengthen the project’s dissemination strategies and explore new ways to encourage youth participation in climate policymaking.

The CLIMentines project fully embodies the values of the Erasmus+ program by promoting European cooperation, non-formal education, and the empowerment of young citizens in the face of today’s and tomorrow’s climate challenges.
